R100 Consultation Call · Nationwide

Do you hate paperwork? Or is your firearm licence scenario a nightmare?

Let FLA help you. Most firearm licence problems aren’t solved by another form. They’re solved by someone who knows how the file is actually read. Cathy van der Westhuizen spent 27+ years inside SAPS as a Designated Firearms Officer — book a R100 call and find out exactly where your situation stands and what your realistic options are.

Independent private consultancy – not SAPS. Firearm Licensing Assistance SA is not part of, authorised by, endorsed by or affiliated with the South African Police Service. You lodge your own application; we prepare and check it.

Who this call is for

If your situation doesn’t fit the standard checklist, you’re in the right place.

These are the calls Cathy takes every week. Recognise yours?

Refusal

Your application was refused

You have a rejection letter and a deadline, and no clear sense of what actually went wrong or whether an appeal is worth lodging.

Expired

Your licence expired before you renewed

The renewal window closed. You need to know where you stand legally and what the correct next step is — before you do anything else.

Estate

You inherited a firearm

A deceased estate, an executor waiting on you, and a firearm you may or may not be entitled to keep. The paperwork order matters here.

Competency

Your competency and licence dates don’t line up

Competency lapsed, or renewals were done out of sequence, and now every form asks for something you can’t produce.

Dedicated status

Dedicated hunter or sport shooter complications

Association status, motivations and section applications that keep getting sent back for reasons nobody has explained to you.

Stalled

You’ve heard nothing for months

Your application went in and disappeared. You want to know whether that’s normal, and what can legitimately be followed up.

What R100 actually buys you

A focused call about your file — not a sales pitch.

  • A plain-language read on your situationWhere you stand right now, in words that make sense.
  • The correct route for your caseNew application, renewal, competency, appeal or estate transfer — and why.
  • What SAPS will expect to seeThe supporting documents that make a file complete rather than returnable.
  • An honest answer on your oddsIf a case is weak, you’ll be told. You won’t be sold a package that can’t help.
  • Clear next steps and pricingIf you want help preparing the pack, you’ll know the cost before you commit.

Before you book

Who this call is for — and who it isn’t.

The R100 call is thirty minutes of working time on your own file. It is worth booking if you are in one of these positions.

Book the call if…

  • Your licence or competency certificate has expired, or expires within the next twelve months.
  • An application, renewal or motivation was refused and you need to appeal.
  • You have inherited a firearm in an estate and need to know what the law requires of you.
  • You are applying as a dedicated hunter or sport shooter and the paperwork has stalled.
  • You have been waiting on SAPS for months without a clear answer.
  • Your situation is unusual enough that nobody has been able to give you a straight answer yet.

Give it a miss if…

  • You are looking for free advice. The consultation is R100, paid before the call is booked.
  • You need help buying, selling or importing a firearm. This service covers licensing administration only.
  • You want a guaranteed result. Cathy will tell you honestly what is realistic; nobody can promise a SAPS decision.
  • You are looking for proficiency or competency training. That is not offered here.

One simple question with a one-line answer? You probably do not need this call. A file that has gone sideways? That is exactly what it is for.

Why the call isn’t free

Call volumes have grown to the point where general enquiries were crowding out people with urgent, complicated files. Charging for the consultation means every booking gets a proper time slot and Cathy’s full attention on your situation specifically.

Who you’ll be speaking to

Cathy van der Westhuizen

Cathy spent more than 27 years in the South African Police Service, including her years as a Designated Firearms Officer — the role responsible for receiving, checking and processing firearm licence applications. She has seen why files get returned, what a complete application looks like, and where applicants most often go wrong.

Today she runs Firearm Licensing Assistance SA as an independent consultancy, helping clients prepare clear, correctly organised applications — and telling them honestly when a case is weak.

Firearm Licensing Assistance SA is not part of, or affiliated with, SAPS. We assist with preparation and administration. All decisions on licence, competency, renewal and appeal applications remain with SAPS.

Questions

Before you book.

What exactly happens on the R100 call?
You’ll speak directly with Cathy about your situation. She’ll ask what has happened so far, look at the dates and documents you have, explain the correct route for your case, and tell you what would be involved. You’ll finish the call knowing your realistic options.
Is the R100 refundable?
No. It pays for Cathy’s thirty minutes on your file, whether or not you go ahead afterwards. There is no obligation to proceed.
My application was already refused. Can you still help?
Often, yes — but appeals are time-sensitive, so book as soon as you can and have your refusal letter ready. Cathy will tell you honestly whether an appeal is worth lodging in your circumstances.
Do you guarantee my licence will be approved?
No, and be cautious of anyone who does. Firearm Licensing Assistance SA is an independent private consultancy and is not part of or affiliated with SAPS. We cannot approve, accelerate or influence any outcome. What we do is help you submit a properly prepared, complete and correctly organised application.
I’m not in the Garden Route. Does that matter?
No. Consultations happen by phone and documents are handled electronically, so clients anywhere in South Africa are welcome.
Do you provide firearm proficiency or competency training?
Not ourselves. Proficiency training is delivered by an accredited training partner, currently in Pretoria only on selected dates; WhatsApp or email us for the dates. We don’t sell or deal in firearms or ammunition. Our service is administrative assistance with licence applications and related SAPS paperwork.
